Work and Play

Sun Aug 1, 2004, 9:26 PM
A few days ago I had a little tip money from Bellagio's left over, so I bought a 4-pack of Kodak 800 film. Needless to say, I made sure to take some time to get out and shoot soon afterwards, and a couple of opportunities presented themselves. First, St. Anthony's has some very interesting stuff, and though I didn't get many shots of the architecture (which isn't all that cool) I did manage to find some interesting views inside and outside the complex. As a tip of the hat to a friend, I tried out a window shot, so we'll see how that turns out. I also did various angles of a garden hose hanging in the gardens, so I'll see what kind of study I can make of that.

Today, the family went out in our new boat, the first time our whole family has gotten to do that since it was bought three weeks ago. One the way there and back I took a number of shots of the Columbia Gorge, and while out I took a few of passing boats, and one photo (which I really hope will turn out well) of my brother waterskiing.

The assignment for the first roll (I've begun giving myself assignments for rolls of film to try to force myself to learn) was the difference of F-stops. We'll see how they turned up and how that will help me figure out what F-stop to use on the fly whenever I feel so inclined. I also began notating all of my shutter speeds, f-stops, and lens and filter uses for my records and just random info in case anyone might be interested. (I noticed that just about every photo in Pop Photo has specs on the shot noted, so I figured it might be a good idea to start myself.)

As you may have already guessed from the lack of followup, I did not win the contest I entered. Ah well, at least I tried, and more people saw my work than normally do. I've been getting a lot of uplifting comments recently, for which I'm very grateful. Thanks to all of you who take the time to stop by and appreciate what I do.

Anyways, back on subject. I took in the first roll of film this evening and after about a 20 minute wait, I now have a processed roll of negatives to work from. Since my computer is currently at a friend's house, it may be a little time before I can post anything, but I'll try to get something up as soon as possible. Look forward to some interesting landscapes and river views in the near future!
